Maintenance Planner

Job Description

Summary
The Maintenance Planner/Scheduler optimizes workforce productivity and work quality by eliminating potential delays and obstacles through proper planning and coordination of manpower, parts, and materials. They support the work order process by progressing work requests, estimating labor and material costs, and populating the work order backlog. Scheduling duties include managing the work order backlog and creating an optimized weekly work schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a detailed schedule for planned maintenance work, ensuring optimal utilization of available hours and resources.
  • Keep track of spare parts and materials needed for maintenance tasks, and coordinate with the procurement team to ensure their availability.
  • Maintain accurate records and files related to maintenance activities, work orders, equipment manuals, and historical maintenance data for analysis and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, methods, and procedures. Implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance planning.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and guidelines. Promote a culture of safety within the maintenance team.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including maintenance, operations, and procurement, to coordinate and communicate maintenance schedules, priorities, and resource requirements.
  • Assist in diagnosing equipment issues and coordinating with technicians to address unexpected maintenance needs promptly.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in maintenance planning and attend relevant training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Be prepared to respond to unscheduled maintenance requirements and assist in minimizing downtime during equipment breakdowns or emergencies.
  • Generate regular reports on maintenance work status, work order completion, and costs to aid in performance analysis and decision-making.
  • Develop weekly work schedules for preventative maintenance and planned work, balancing scheduling with available hours and personnel utilization. Communicate with relevant teams to ensure equipment availability. Manage the backlog of work orders and maintain a ready package of schedulable work orders for potential unscheduled shutdowns.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required, and additional technical or maintenance-related education or certifications can be beneficial.
  • A proven track record of experience in maintenance planning and scheduling, ideally in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to efficiently manage work orders, schedules, and maintenance records.
  • A good understanding of maintenance processes, equipment, and machinery to accurately estimate costs and prioritize work orders.
  • Excellent organizational skills are critical for managing multiple work orders, schedules, and resources efficiently.
  • Effective communication is essential for coordinating maintenance activities with different teams, technicians, and departments.
  • The ability to analyze and resolve maintenance-related issues and challenges is crucial for successful planning and scheduling.
  • Attention to detail is necessary to accurately estimate costs, ensure work orders are complete, and maintain precise records for analysis and reporting
